Spending 10 days with Alex was a joy. Despite her having to return to work, we explored the city, took walks, and saw friends. Margaritas and queso were a daily indulgence, and we did mange to take in some of the continuing “weirdness”. Alex’s friends Kaleen and Ernie took us to two step classes, where we sufficiently embarrassed ourselves. Austin, usually in the 60’s in January, was 17 degrees on more that one day. Burrrrrr. Nevertheless, we hung out in some great outdoor eating venues with food trucks that rival any good Mexican restaurant. At home we mostly eschew meat, but John let loose with the BBQ, perhaps the best ever. Yes, I am talking about food. Music and food are the best commodities here. Well, perhaps the friendship trumps both. People are kind. Kind as can be. It was hard to say goodbye to Alex and her friends, but knowing that we were headed for a week in Antigua eased the pain.
